FlashlightAlthough it was almost midnight, Chaerin didn't mind walking home alone. It gave her time to herself and it gave her time to think. Darkness, to her, was peaceful; she felt as if she was covered by a big blanket, blocking out all outside noise and problems, as if the blanket was protecting her and shielding her.
Chaerin was deep into her own world when a skateboard suddenly dashes closely by her, bringing her back to reality. "What the heck," she cursed the skateboarder under her breathe, "I hope you trip!" she yells after the skateboarder. Chaerin sighed when the skateboarder turns the corner.
Soon enough she was at her own house. As Chaerin's house came slowly came to view, a figure outside her house catches her eyes. Quickly reacting, Chaerin crouch down behind a trash bin and watches the figure from afar.
The figure quickly studies his surroundings and took out an envelope from his jacket, quickly putting it under their house's doormat and speeding off.
"Why does he look so familiar?" Chaerin said under her breath as the streetlight only allowed her to see a limited image of his identity. Waiting until he was far enough, Chaerin quickly ran to their door and lift up their doormat, revealing a white envelop not addressed to anyone.
As soon as Chaerin was inside of her room, she locks the door and took out the envelope. "Who are you?" she whispers to herself as she opens the envelope to reveal a card. As soon as she opens up the card, a stack of cash fell and scatters onto the floor causing Chaerin's eyes to widen as she stares at the cash in shock.
Honey, it's me, your handsome lover. I'm sorry I can't spend your birthday together with you. I hope that one day we can be together and not have to care about what others will think. I'm sorry this is all I have for you. I will work harder next time. Love, your handsome lover.
Chaerin's legs gave out on her as she fell to the floor and re-read every single word on the card over and over, not wanting to believe what her mind is telling her.
Was this really meant for her mother? Although no names were mentioned, her mother's birthday just passed a few days ago.
